Set Up Directions

Set-Up Directions provide students clear directions for completing tasks during the first several minutes of class. Although Boundless Learning teachers are provided with a Set Up Directions poster in their implementation kit, there are many ways for this strategy to be used effectively. These include using the poster, a PowerPoint Slide, an overhead, or writing the directions on the board. The one important thing to remember is consistency. Each day, Set-Up directions should be updated, posted in the same location, and contain all elements found on the poster. Set-Up directions usually include the date, instructional objective, Challenge Question, and any Special Directions. Students are instructed to read the directions as soon they enter the classroom and complete the activities within a specified period of time. Many teachers also add Special Directions related to completing academic drills, changing morning procedures, and organizing the TARGET folder.
