Mobility Strategies

1. When the student arrives at a new school give informal assessment in reading and math to see if there are gaps in the education and what needs to be reinforced.

2. Once areas of need are identified, plan for the student to get remediation in those areas.

3. If the mobility is due to homelessness:

  • See if the student can remain in the school if they are in the same district.
  • Identify the next school and give information to assist them in transition.

4. Attempt to work with home schooling office or the homeless office if homelessness is an issue and:

  • See if they can assist in remediation at the school
  • See if they can work with the student intermittently at the shelter or place the student is living, while waiting for transportation to assist in getting them to school.
  • Connect the parent with Social Services to assist them in finding a place to live.

5. Conference with the parents and give them ideas to work with the student on at home.
