The National Governors Association (NGA) Center for Best Practices has published a new issue brief, Maximizing the Impact of State Early Childhood Home Visitation Programs, that looks at how governors can better integrate home visiting programs into effective, comprehensive state early childhood systems. Mathematica Policy Research and Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago are producing a series of briefs about home visiting, using information from grantees funded by the Children's Bureau to implement one of five evidence-based home visiting models. Recent briefs include:

Child Trends Home Visiting Guide
A guide to help states with their federal home visiting grants. Home Visiting Application Process: A Guide for Planning State Needs Assessments outlines key steps for completing the grant application process and provides national and state-level data useful to applicants conducting needs assessments, identifying high-risk populations, and selecting and measuring benchmarks. This guide does not address every element required for inclusion in state applications and is not intended to be used as a checklist. Official guidance on the home visiting application process is available from the Maternal and Child Health Bureau. (8/5/10)

The Family Center on Technology and Disability (FCTD) June 2010 newsletter features a discussion with Sue Thain Olsen and Amy Henningson of the Utah State University's Center for Persons with Disabilities (CPD). CPD is doing research on the benefits and challenges of providing early intervention services to families in remote rural areas via virtual home visits. Their research is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education's Steppingstones of Technology Innovation for Children with Disabilities program.  Be sure to check out the archived newsletters on the site as well.
