Maryland Online IEP

Let’s review what we have discussed in the Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance (PLAAFP) module. We defined PLAAFP and identified the importance of writing a thorough and informative PLAAFP statement. We specified the five key characteristics of a PLAAFP (Current, Relevant, Objective, Measurable, and Understandable). We also reviewed the six major steps in the development of a PLAAFP (Compile Data, Examine Strengths, Address Concerns/Needs, Describe Impact, Reflect On Guiding Questions, and Write PLAAFP). And finally, we examined PLAAFP statements to identify the key characteristics and to determine if all critical components were evident based on a Wizard Checklist.

Family Connection:	Include input from families when documenting academic achievement and functional performance in the PLAAFP statement. Write the PLAAFP using family-friendly language.

Make sure to also gather information from families that includes their perspective on their child’s school performance and information about the skills their child demonstrates in other settings to increase family engagement in the area of developing a PLAAFP.

Please take a moment to complete the following 3-question survey on this module. Your input is instrumental in helping us think through and improve on the design of our learning resources so that we can better support you in meeting your learning goals: Module 01: PLAAFP Survey

This concludes the first module. We'll continue in the next module to learn how to utilize information from the PLAAFP to write IEP goals and objectives.
